About the project
The Policy for Irish-Medium Education outside the Gaeltacht was informed by a public consultation involving parents, students, teachers and other stakeholders. It addresses key issues including awareness of the benefits of Irish-medium education, support for non-Irish-speaking parents, diversity and inclusion, provision for children with special educational needs, research, and stronger links between schools and their wider communities. Published in November 2025, the policy sets out a vision for high-quality, inclusive Irish-medium education, supported by appropriate resources and a wider ecosystem of support. It also aims to foster a strong affinity with the Irish language and culture among children and young people. An initial two-year Action Plan (2025–2027) was published by the Department of Education and Youth (DEY) alongside the policy to support implementation.
EduRelate is currently working to design a practical evaluation framework and logic model to guide implementation oversight and inform future policy review. The project will include the development of:
Project outputs
- A clear and robust logic model for the policy, showing the relationship between inputs, activities, outputs, short-term and medium-term outcomes, and long-term impacts;
- A practical evaluation framework setting out the key evaluation questions, proposed indicators, data sources, and approach to reporting; and
- Recommendations on how the evaluation framework can be embedded within ongoing implementation, monitoring, and review processes.
