About the project
EduRelate conducted a research and development project focused on strengthening evidence-informed drug and alcohol prevention across North Inner City Dublin. Drawing on local stakeholder engagement, international research and European prevention frameworks, the study examines prevention as a whole-system responsibility spanning children and young people, families, schools, communities and the wider social and physical environment.
The work identifies existing strengths, gaps and opportunities across universal, selective and indicated prevention, while considering how family support, school-based prevention, youth and community services, environmental prevention and local policy can work together more coherently. Particular attention is given to the conditions that shape risk and protection, including social connectedness, community resources, the built environment, availability and accessibility of substances, and opportunities for positive development.
The study develops practical recommendations for a more coordinated local prevention system, including stronger cross-sector collaboration, clearer prevention pathways, greater use of evidence-informed approaches and the proposed development of a North Inner City Prevention Hub to support coordination, capacity-building, implementation and learning across the area.
